Organisation
We are organised in three technical departments and a department for operational support. Through our Landslide and erosion expertise, we give support to other agencies in geotechnical safety issues. Johan Anderberg is our Director General and Glenn Sundberg is Deputy Director General.
Our departments:
- Dept for Spatial planning and geotechnical engineering
- Dept for Natural hazards and geodata
- Dept for Management of contaminated sites
- Operational support
David Bendz is research director. Yvonne Rogbeck i strategy director.
Department for Spatial planning and geotechnical engineering
The department focus on more efficient soil works and includes geotechnical issues in slope stability, foundation, reinforcement and environmental impact.
We specialize in:
- Construction and foundation engineering
- Environmental impact
- Slope stability and reinforcement
- Review of geotechnical investigations
- Processing of geotechnical information with Geografic Information System tools, GIS
Head of department: Helene Kennedy
Landslide and erosion expertise is part of this department.
The department focus on resource efficient earthworks. This includes methods for ground investigation and the properties, behaviours and characteristics of earth materials as well as alternative materials. SGI's Soil laboratory is part of this department.
We specialize in:
- Development of geotechnical and geoenvironmental methods for investigation and assessment of earth materials
- Material properties of soil, rock, waste and industrial residues
- Efficient use of materials in earthworks, including the use of secondary materials and alternative materials
Department for Natural hazards and geodata
The department support the community in adapting to a changing climate. This includes support in municipal planning within comprehensive and detailed planning, support in decision-making process and implementing measures for sustainable adaptation. Our work with geografic information, GIS, is part of this department.
We specialize in:
- Basis for spatial planning
- Risk assessment and decision-making support
- Measures for adaptation
- Forms of control for climate adaptation
Head of department: Mats Eriksson
Department for Management of contaminated sites
The focus of this department is to increase the pace of remediation of contaminated sites and raise awareness. This includes implementation of new knowledge on risk assessment and contaminants occurrence and pathways in soil, sediment, and ground- and surface water. SGI's environmental laboratory is part of this department.
We specialize in:
- Contaminated sites, including environmental law
- Landfill technology and residues
Head of department: Mikael Stark
Operational support
The department works with finance, IT, HR, communications, housekeeping, procurement, registry, environmental and quality management, and administrative services. Our library, specialized in geotechnical engineering and environmental geotechnics literature, is part of this department.
Units under the department Operational support are:
- Finance
- HR
- IT
- Communication
